SYNOPSIS
16-year-old Danylo Bakhmutskyi works as a ferryman in the shadow of a destroyed bridge 50 km from Kharkiv to earn money and continue his studies at a sports academy, but his dreams of becoming a professional kayaker in the future collide with the reality of wartime.

THE DIRECTOR
Pavlo Dorohoi is a documentary film director and photographer (1985). He is based in Kharkiv, Ukraine. He has been working in documentary photography for over a decade and has received international awards. (2023 Personal photo-project “Post Modernism Architecture in Ukraine 1985-1991” is shortlisted for The Sony World Photography Awards; Photo project “Traces of Presence” exhibited at Avignon Festival.) Pavlo observes how interesting people build their lives in different, often unusual, spaces. He is fascinated by architecture and Japanese culture. Pavlo is one of the members of the VICE News team that won 2023’s-year’s news and documentary Emmy for Outstanding Continuous News Coverage. The films Pavlo is working on were presented at Ji.hlava and Berlinale EFM. His short documentary 89 DAYS (2023) was in official selections at HotDocs 2023.
