Ukraine joins the MEDIA strand of the Creative europe program
On December 11th, 2024, Ukraine became a full participant to the MEDIA strand of the Creative Europe programme.
An amendment to the existing association agreement between Ukraine and the European Commission was signed, following Ukraine’s request to fully participate in the MEDIA strand and the Commission’s assessment of Ukrainian media legislation.
Ukrainian professionals will now acess the wide range of opportunities provided by MEDIA, which supports the European film and audiovisual industries to develop, distribute and promote European works. MEDIA actions are divided into four clusters:
- the content cluster provides support to producers for development of films, TV series and video games, focusing on cross-border cooperation and innovation
- the business cluster aims to foster talents and skills in the European audiovisual sector, focusing on capacity building and business-to-business exchange
- the audience cluster supports audience growth on all platforms (cinemas, festivals, VOD networks…), with a strong focus on younger audiences, and ensures the wide distribution of European films outside of their national borders
- the policy support cluster supports analysis and outreach activities: data intelligence, advocacy and communication, awareness campaigns…
Ukraine previously participated in some of the actions from the audience and business clusters: this full participation now opens up new perspectives.
