Call for Applications – Documentary Filmmaking Training
The training programme for young Ukrainian documentary filmmakers was inaugurated on Monday 7 September during the Lumière Summit, by Michel Hazanavicius and Eléonore Caroit, in the presence of Tetyana Berezhna.
Funded by the French Institute of Ukraine and implemented by La Fémis, the programme offers emerging Ukrainian filmmakers the opportunity to develop their documentary projects through a dedicated training programme in Paris.
Taking place at La Fémis in Paris from 23 to 27 November 2026, the introductory programme will explore key approaches to contemporary documentary filmmaking. Through workshops, film screenings, case studies and meetings with filmmakers, participants will work on the development of their projects and explore the different stages of documentary creation: from choosing a subject and developing a point of view to writing, filming reality, and working with image and sound. The programme will provide participants with artistic and methodological tools to develop their own approach and transform lived experience and real-life material into a cinematic narrative. The training will be conducted entirely in English.
The programme is fully funded by the French Institute of Ukraine. All participation costs are covered, including travel, accommodation and training fees. Each selected participant will also receive a living allowance.
This introductory programme is the first stage of a broader training pathway. Following this first session, some participants may be selected to continue developing their projects through a second training session planned for 2027.
