SYNOPSIS
Set against the backdrop of war-torn Ukraine, “VONA” a feature length documentary, exposes a jarring reality: nature has become a new battleground. With meticulous strategy, Russian forces exploit AIR, WATER, SOIL and RADIATION. Weaponizing these elements to wreak havoc. The film delves into four distinct lives, weaving a narrative that unveils the perilous fight for our planet’s future. Through the lens of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, “VONA” unearths the ecological toll of war while offering a ray of hope, spotlighting pathways to mend our wounded Earth.

THE DIRECTORS

Daria Onyshchenko was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. After graduating in communication and international journalism at the Taras Shevchenko University in Kyiv, in 2004, and worked in the meantime as a theater director. From 2006 to 2012, she studied feature film directing at the University of Television and Film in Munich : during this time she wrote, directed and produced a number of scripts and award-winning short films. In 2014, she completed her studies with the feature film Eastalgia, which opened the 46th International Hof Film Festival and was screened at more than 20 film festivals worldwide. Her second feature The Forgotten, started its festival career in competition at the Warsaw International Film Festival, where it was awarded a special mention. In 2022, Daria worked with the German broadcaster ZDF on the successful mini-series Himmel und Erde, telling stories about Ukrainian refugees in Germany. Daria is a member of the Ukrainian Film Academy.
